• A Little Can Go A Long Way: Empowering Women With Uber

Sponsored by Uber What do you do to empower women? A couple years ago, I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Downtown Women’s Shelter donating brand new shoes to the women. The joy on their faces from this little gesture, and hearing their individual stories really really touched me. It gave a real perspective on all the different reasons women can find themselves in a shelter. This experience led me to continue to donate to the shelter in my own way. Being a blogger, I receive so many products delivered to my house daily. Sometimes you take it for granted because for someone who this is not normal, it would be amazing. And don’t get me wrong, getting goodies in the mail is amazing but there is only so much one person needs and can actually use.

So I make it a point every time I feel my things piling up to take everything I don’t need and donate it to the women’s shelter. I know it means so much to the women and this small gesture can mean so much to someone in need. I know it’s just clothes and beauty products but feeling and looking good is something that is so important to women. These clothes and makeup can help empower them to get out of bed in the morning, interview for a job and overall just feel good. It’s one less thing for them to have to worry about as they regain their footing in this world. I know a small donation can go a long way and I hope to continue to empower women in other ways especially young girls. I want them to know they can do anything they put their mind to no matter what circumstance life has handed them.
Uber is doing their part to empower women by increasing their focus on women driver-partners. They are committed to get 1 million women drivers using their app by 2020. I don’t know about you, but I always love when I hop into an Uber with a women driver-partner. Driving Uber gives you so much control over your schedule, time and money. You basically get to be your own boss and I’m all for more woman bosses!  In fact, Uber aims to increase the representation of women in leadership roles in their company.  I love that they are taking a conscious step to speak up for woman.
No matter how you choose to empower other women, through compliments, compassion, donations, or even just your example, I think it’s beautiful when women uplift other women. Matter fact, when anyone and EVERYONE uplifts women. A lot of times we get the short end of the stick and the world is a bit harder and less safe for us, so anything we can do to help us feel stronger, more empowered, and like we can accomplish anything, I am here for!
